1,2,3 Grow kit Guide!

Haven’t bought a grow kit yet? No problem! Pick your species to the right.

The following steps are required to produce your own beautiful mushrooms with our Grow Kits! Don’t forget to tag us in your projects on our Instagram and Facebook at the bottom of the page. Your kit is guaranteed to grow and should produce 3 to 4 flushes! Keep misting after the first harvest. Check out the FAQ’s at the bottom of the page if you still have questions after reading the Grow Guide!

Our kits now come in just block form but are 2x the size of our boxed kits, include all the same materials, and grow 2x the shrooms!

Step 1 - Cut out front of box (or just pul out of box if you’ve recieved a Commercial Kit) around sticker on the dotted line. Cut an x in the bag.

What you will need:

  • The included spray bottle filled with water

  • A razor blade or a very sharp knife (don’t use scissors!)

  • A space with good air flow (in front of an open window or anywhere fresh air is often available)

  • A space retaining a temperature of 55-75 degrees Fahrenheit

Upon receiving your Ready-to-Fruit kit it is crucial to initiate the pinning process immediately! Your kit contains a sawdust substrate (what they are grown on) colonized with mycelium (the “root” structure and neural network of mushrooms). Inside the box and bag is a living organism!

Step 2 - Mist, mist, mist!

Your soon to be food has moisture content of upwards of 90%, meaning the more moisture you can provide, the better! We recommend 4 times a day, but anytime you walk by, it doesn’t hurt! Lion’s Mane may be a little more sensitive and turn brown if you mist the fruits heavily and directly, but no worries, they’re good to go!

Step 3 - Harvest your bounty! 🍄 🍄 🍄

We recommend harvesting oysters once the largest “frond” has started to curl up. Lion’s Mane can be harvested once teeth start forming. Grab the entire cluster firmly and pull while twisting. We’ve found trying to be gentle ends up in more mushrooms on the floor some days!

You’re ready to cook up some goodness! Store mushrooms in the fridge in cardboard or a paper bag. Keeping them in plastic will only cause them to go bad faster!

Check out the Recipes page to find recipes for all the varieties of mushrooms we offer!

Keep on misting! Your block will live on to potentially fruit again 3-4 times! Once the nutrients are depleted, you can break your block up in woody compost, into hardwood stumps, or layer under straw in your garden. This may give the mycelium a chance to live on outside off of natural nutrients! Cool stuff! 🙂

FAQ’s

  1. Do I need to keep my mushrooms in a dark place?
No! Your mushrooms prefer to be in indirect sunlight! The sun or artificial light is an indicator for your mushrooms to start growing. 🙂

  2. What’s inside the bag in the box?
Inside your box is a commercially viable ready to fruit block. This block contains “substrate” (what mushrooms grow on, in this case hardwood sawdust) colonized with “mycelium” (the root structure of mushrooms). We recommend keeping your block in the box and cutting out the front of the box. This directs the nutrients of the block to a spot where the mushrooms can grow large!

  3. What if I'm not using my kit immediately?
Kits can be stored in the fridge for a few weeks until they are ready to be used.
